Clark, Philip

b. March 25, 1787, in Rye, England, United Kingdom; d. 1853, in Sangamon County, Illinois. Clark married Elizabeth Gravitt, from Paris, France, and they had five children. Clark came to America in 1817. In 1818, he was among the first settlers of Rochester Township in Sangamon County. He and his brother, Edward Clark, started a sawmill in 1824 and a flour mill in 1825. In 1850, Clark was an innkeeper with real estate valued at $1,500.
